Altar dedicated to Brigantia - South Shields

Decoration and iconography: On back a bird; on right side patera; on left jug. Site: South Shields (Arbeia) Find context: At the junction of Trajan Street and Baring Street, about 90 m. south of the south-west angle of the fort at South Shields. Date: 3rd century a.d. Current location: Now in Arbeia Roman Fort and Museum.

Translation: "Sacred to the goddess Brigantia: Congennicus willingly and deservedly fulfilled his vow."
